How to Be a Happy Stay-at-home Mom (daily habits)

A happy stay-at-home mom is a dedicated mother who is satisfied with her life and the choices she has made.

Being a stay-at-home mom is not always an easy job. Sometimes it can feel like you’re the only one who is working, and all of your kids are just sitting around doing nothing. However, there are ways to make this job more fulfilling and enjoyable for you. This article will give tips on how to be a happy stay-at-home mom. These daily habits help you be productive and become a successful stay-at-home mom.

How to be a happy stay at home mom

Nowadays, stay-at-home moms are doing it all. Attending house chores, looking after the children, and finding ways to earn while at home.

With all that they are doing alone, they don’t have time left for themselves. Being a stay-at-home mom becomes one of the most challenging and tiresome jobs. Moms are so busy taking care of others that they forget about themselves.

Now it is high time. Stay-at-home moms need to realize that as much as we love our families and need to take care of them, we also need to create time for ourselves every day to unwind and relax.

Having that in mind, here are some simple tips on how to be a happy stay-at-home mom

14 tips on how to be a happy stay-at-home mom

#1. Cultivate Self-Care:

Self-care isn’t a luxury – it’s a necessity, especially for stay-at-home moms who dedicate much of their time and energy to others. Prioritize self-care by carving out time each day for activities that nourish your body, mind, and soul. Whether it’s practicing mindfulness, meditating, indulging in a hobby, or simply taking a moment to breathe, self-care is essential for maintaining balance and happiness.

#2: Take three balanced meals every day.

Mom will agree with me. We spend most of our time feeding our families. We prepare our favorite foods for our children and husbands and forget that even we need a balanced diet on our plates or a favorite meal for ourselves.  We even make a habit of eating two hours after everyone else.

Advice: Starting today, make it a point to prepare your favorite food instead of your husband’s and children’s. Take breakfast, lunch, and dinner while other members of the family are taking them, not after two hours when the food is cold. Make sure your diet is well balanced, and do not take scraps from your children.

#3. Make yourself a priority.

When was the last time you made a list and put yourself at the top of it? We start with what the children need, and then we fix ourselves at the end of the list, by the way.

A story for the day

There is this lady who told me about a time she went to buy a shoe for herself. She needed the shoe because all her shoes were torn. When she went to the store, she saw cute clothes and shoes for the kid. She went ahead and bought two pairs of clothes and matching shoes for her kid, who already had so many pairs of shoes at home.

When she went back home and removed the shoe at the front door, which was her habit, the child started enjoying that the shoes she had worn were tattered.

The first son inquired of her mother. I heard you say that you had gone to buy shoes. Why didn’t you put this old shoe in the paper bag and put on the new shoes the way we did the other day when you and Daddy bought a pair of shoes for us?

Only to realize she didn’t even buy a single item for her. She went and bought shoes and clothes for her kid, which they had already bought the other day.

Advice: Starting today, as you list down the things to buy for your family, make sure you have one item in the top five that belongs to you.  Don’t feel guilty about that. Try to reward or treat yourself with an item that you need.

You can buy something small like a piece of jewelry, pant or a bra.

#4. Create “me time”

14 Simple Things a Stay-at-Home Mom Needs To Do for Herself Every Day

You don’t have to be the perfect stay-at-home mom every day. When your kid takes a nap instead of washing dishes, you too can take a 30-minute nap on the couch, take a glass of wine, or eat a piece of chocolate while relaxing on the couch. A perfect mom does not exist.

Find something small to treat yourself to every day because the duties you are performing are not easy.

#5. Learn to say no.

In my opinion, if you want to be a happy stay-at-home mom, you need to learn how to say no. It is important to know what your limits are and what you can and cannot do. You need to set boundaries for yourself so that you can have a clear idea of what is expected of you as well as what your personal goals are.

You should also learn how to delegate tasks that are not in your job description so that you don’t have too much on your plate. This will allow you more time with the family and it will help build a stronger bond between them.

#6. Take 30-minute naps.

When I feel exhausted or am tired, I wait for my 2-year-old daughter to take an afternoon nap, and at this time I rest my body for 30 minutes on the couch.

I’ve made it a habit that every day, even if my kid won’t sleep, I keep them busy with toys or kid programs they love and take my 30-minute nap.

Wow, this habit makes me feel relaxed, energetic, and fresh the whole day and makes me work even late hours at night.

#7. Make a habit of reading.

Even if you are a stay-at-home mom, never stop improving yourself and renewing your mind. This can only happen when you read a book that leaves your mind with new ideas.

You can read a bible, stay-at-home mom books, motivational books, motherhood, parenting, self-improvement books, and fiction books. Find that one book that interests you.

#8. Exercise

Stay at home mom exercise

Make it a practice to exercise daily. Find one simple exercise that you don’t need equipment or workout cloth, and can take only take less than 30 minutes.

My favorite is plank (5 minutes), 10-20 sit, and skipping rope. Sometimes I even pretend to be jogging in front of a mirror for only 15 minutes.

Skipping is not necessary you have a rope you can fake jumping without a rope.

#9. Have a daily schedule

The plan helps to have an organized day. Have time for cleaning, eating, or personal time, and stick to your program daily

#10 Ask for assistance

You can ask your older siblings to help with some house chores. Request that your husband looks after the children or assist in some household duties on weekends.

Hire someone to help if you can afford it and need it.

#11. Start a day with a shower

I never start a day with a shower. I start cleaning the house, but I make a habit of changing out of my pajamas and putting on clean clothes (not tattered but something neat) to do the cleaning in the house.

Even if you find me cleaning, you will think I have showered. After being done cleaning, I shower.

#12. Have a hobby

Don’t stay at home the whole day repeating the same thing: cleaning the house, feeding children, doing laundry, and washing dishes.

Except for the daily duties (housekeeping and cooking), discover what else ignites your heart, may it be knitting, writing, baking, cooking, and much more.

Note: Turn your hobbies and passions into a tool to earn money. What do I mean, if you are good at baking, bake cakes and sell them to nearby neighbors and friends? Knit smart sweaters or shawls and sell them for a profit.

#13. Remember your health

When was the last time you visited your gynecologist or dentist? At least once a year visit a nearby health center for health checkups.

#14. Pray

Make it a habit of praying every day. I always tell people that it is not necessary to sit down for thirty minutes to pray; you can have a simple prayer for five minutes or less and talk to your God.

#15. Stay Connected with Friends and Family

Being a stay-at-home mom can be isolating, but it is important to stay connected with friends and family. Make an effort to schedule regular play dates with other moms or join a mommy group. You can also stay in touch with friends and family through phone calls, video chats, and social media.

#16. Practice Gratitude

Practicing gratitude is a simple but powerful way to increase happiness. Take time each day to reflect on the things you are grateful for, such as your health, your family, and your home. This will help you stay positive and appreciate the blessings in your life.

#17. Set Realistic Expectations:

Let go of the pressure to be a “perfect” mom and embrace imperfection instead. Understand that there will be good days and bad days, and that’s okay. Set realistic expectations for yourself and your children, and be gentle with yourself when things don’t go as planned. Remember that your worth as a mom isn’t determined by how well you adhere to societal standards, but by the love and care you give to your family.
